The left-hander has been named a preseason All-American by four different services.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Preseason All-America accolades continue to roll in for University of Louisville left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers, as the southpaw was recognized by Baseball America on Monday.
Detmers was one of four starting pitchers represented on the publication’s second team.
The Chatham, Ill., native has now earned preseason honors from Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, D1Baseball and Perfect Game.
The 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, Detmers returns for his third season in a Louisville uniform in 2020. The southpaw was 13-4 with a 2.78 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 113.1 innings last year, setting the program’s single-season record for strikeouts and tying the mark for wins. Detmers garnered All-American recognition from six different services and was a Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Award semifinalist.
Detmers had nine starts with double-digit strikeouts in 2019, including consecutive starts against Brown and James Madison in which he held the opposition hitless through the first seven innings. Detmers also set the Jim Patterson Stadium single-game strikeout record when he punched out 16 batters in 7.2 innings against Georgia Tech last march.
Louisville opens the 2020 season Feb. 14 with a three-game series on the road at Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. The Cardinals’ home opener is set for Feb. 19 against Wright State at Jim Patterson Stadium.
