@EKUWBB SIGNS ELECTRIC GUARD FROM NEW YORK

RICHMOND, Ky.Emely Rosario, a 5-foot-6 guard from the Bronx, New York, has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play women’s basketball at Eastern Kentucky University.

Rosario was named the NJ.com Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League Player of the Year after averaging 17.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game as a senior. Last season, she recorded double-digit scoring in 24 of the 25 games she appeared and had 10 games of 20 or more points, including a season-high 34 against St. Dominic.

“We are excited to add Emely to our program,” Head Coach Chrissy Roberts said.  “Emely distributes and facilitates extremely well.  She does a great job putting her teammates in positions to be successful.  The huge presence she has on the defensive end, her speed, ball handling, and her ability to score will only make our backcourt better.”

Her play helped Marist High School notch a 21-game winning streak and a 24-2 overall record, propelling the school to an appearance in the Hudson County Tournament final, where she recorded 16 points, nine rebounds, and four steals.

EKU women’s basketball signed a total of 10 players for this upcoming season, six of which signed in the early signing period. Those players include: Bria Bass (Tucker, Georgia/Tucker HS), Teri Goodlett (Louisville, Kentucky/Butler HS), Kennedy Gore (Stockbridge, Georgia/Woodland HS), Brittany Grice (Alabaster, Alabama/Thompson HS), Madison Pierce (Birmingham, Alabama/Shelton State CC) and Valerie Clark (Greenwood, Indiana/Center Grove HS).

Rosario rounds out a four-person spring signing class comprised of Ericka Richardson (Horn Lake, Mississippi/Horn Lake HS), Kenyia Johnson (Orange Park, Florida/University of Evansville), and Joya Smith (Paducah, Kentucky/Three Rivers CC), that look to take EKU to its third-straight Ohio Valley Conference championship game.
