Kentucky Looks to Extend Home Winning Streak

UK Athletics

The Wildcats host Tennessee Tech on Tuesday and Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off its longest game in seven years the Kentucky baseball team faces a quick turnaround when it opens a five-game week on Tuesday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park against Tennessee Tech. On Wednesday, nearby Eastern Kentucky makes the short trip up Interstate 75 to face the Wildcats.

The Cats (4-3) prevailed 8-7 in a 15-inning marathon against Appalachian State on Sunday, completing the weekend sweep when junior Oraj Anu drew a bases loaded walk to force in the winning run. It capped a perfect 4-0 week to open a 15-game homestand and included a 21-run outburst on Saturday, the most runs the Cats had scored since 2014.

Tennessee Tech features power hitting Jason Hinchman, who has six home runs and 14 total hits through six games. He’s batting .560 with eight runs scored and nine RBI thus far.

Eastern Kentucky pulled a stunning 2-0 upset of LSU in Baton Rouge last Friday night and were competitive throughout the weekend against one of the nation’s most storied programs. Last season, the Colonels helped UK open Kentucky Proud Park as the Cats debuted the new stadium with a 7-3 win.

Sophomores Trae Harmon and Austin Schultz have been swinging a hot bat for the Cats, with Harmon having homered in each of the past three games and Schultz driving in nine runs last week after driving in just eight all of last season.

Both games will be aired on SEC Network+ and the UK Sports Network. First pitch is at 4 p.m. ET both days.
