Logano Triumphant at Michigan

Joey Logano – Driver of the No. 22 Penske Toyota wins the FireKeepers Casino 400 in Overtime dominating fashion.

Brooklyn, Mich. – June 10, 2019 – Anthony Holbrook

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series 15th race of the 2019 season visited the Michigan International Speedway, Monday June 10th, 2019 (Rescheduled) for the FireKeepers Casino 400.  Located on Southern Michigan, the two-mile Michigan Speedway features 18 degree banking in the straight and wide turns.  Which classifies Michigan International Speedway as one of the fastest tracks on current NASCAR circuit.

STAGE 1

Joey Logano-Driver of the Penske Ford won the Bush Pole Award and brought the rain-postponed FireKeepers Casino 400 race to green after a 27 hour delay. Controlling the lead till a lap 20 mandated caution ,  Logano opted for two-tire service to reclaim the lead of pit row.  Driver of the No. 10 Ford –Aric Almirola and Childress Driver No. 88-Alex Bowman battle behind the leader within the final segments of Stage 1.  Logano capitalizing on clean air up front, assisted him to pull away from the dueling competitors to claim his 6th Stage victory of the season.

       Stage 2

Winning the race off Pit Row, Joey Logano led the field back to green, for the restart of Stage 2.  Joey will maintain the point until a Caution on Lap 71.  At this time 9 drivers decided to decline pit service to maintain track positioning.  Austin Dillion- Driver of the No. 3 Chevy utilized fuel strategy to advance through the field.  In the closing of Stage 1, Dillion passed Stuart-Hass Ford No. 4.  Driver-Kevin Harvick to the start-finish line to Capture Stage 2.

The Stage 2 win is registered as Dillions first Stage win of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Season.

        Final Stage

Dominating a total of 160 circuits , Logano would relinquish the lead to the Kevin Harvick’s  No. 4 Ford, mid-point during the Final Stage. On Lap 148, Joey Logano passed front-runner Kevin Harvick to recapture the point. After exchanging the lead on lap 148/149 both would vie to stay persistent to stay up front.   By utilizing the fastest car on the track, Logano regained the lead on Lap 150.  Erick Jones-Driver of the No. 20 Gibbs Toyota would bring out the final caution, bunching up the field for a two-lap overtime shootout.  Joey Logano would hold  on to beat a late charging Kurt Busch by 1.47 sec. at the finish, to collect the FireKeepers Casino 400 trophy.
