Estill County, Hazard, Powell County, and Breathitt County advance!
14th Region teams traveled to the far reaches of the Region for the four quarterfinal match ups on Saturday. Due to the change in format of the baseball playoffs, the quarters were moved up to Saturday instead of the traditional Monday, Memorial Day of Baseball.
In the opener, Estill County defeated Knott Central 2-0 behind a mound gem by Micah Adams. Adams went the distance for the Engineers, striking out 11 Patriots, and only giving up 2 hits in the shutout. FINAL: ESTILL COUNTY 2 – KNOTT CENTRAL 0.
In game 2, three time defending Region champs, Hazard dispatched Jackson City in 3 inning 17 – 1. Senior, Kyle Johnson got the win for the Bulldogs. Not much else to say in this one. FINAL: HAZARD 17 – JACKSON CITY 1.
Game 3 featured Powell County taking on homestanding Letcher Central. Powell outlasted LCC for a 9-3 win. FINAL: POWELL COUNTY 9 – LETCHER CENTRAL 3.
The nightcap was a dandy as Breathitt County took on Region power Perry Central. Breathitt went long on the night with a 3-run homer by Layne Weddle and a 2-run job by Cameron Stacy powered the Bobcats to the upset. FINAL: BREATHITT COUNTY 7 – PERRY CENTRAL 5.
The semi-finals will be on Monday, with the ESTILL – HAZARD match up set for a 5:00 first pitch, and the POWELL – BREATHITT tilt to begin at 7:30.
