LadyCats Win Fourth Straight, Rout Powell County

Breathitt puts three in double figures in 29 point win

Breathitt County got their second win in 24 hours against a 14th Region opponent as they doubled up Powell County on Saturday afternoon at the Fairce O. Woods Coliseum. The win was the fourth in a row for the LadyCats and pushed their record to 4-1 on the young season.

The LadyCats used tenacious defense and hot shooting from beyond the arc to stake themselves to any early lead and which was then comfortable at the half. Breathitt held the Lady Pirates to less than 10 points in each quarter of the game.

First Quarter
Senior Maddie Haddix provided the early spark with two of her four deep balls in the quarter for six. Brenley Gross had two buckets for four and Lexie Combs added three. Powell was held to six point on the quarter with field goals from Jessleigh Centers and Emily Reed. After one, Breathitt was on top 14-6.

Second Quarter
Breathitt scored 12 of their 15 points in the quarter on made threes, with Freshman Micah Cannoy connecting on two, Haddix added her third and Senior Jerrica Neace a single trey. Powell was able to muster a three by Zaley Strange and a basket a piece for Centers and Mikyra Caudill. At the half, Breathitt was out front 29-14.

Third Quarter
Breathitt extended their lead in the quater by going away from the trey with only one successful make by Haddix who had five in the frame to set her game-high total of 15. Combs had three baskets for six, Gross added four, and Neace four. Reed, Caudill, Centers, and Trinity Romans each had two for Powell. Headed to the 4th, Breathitt led 48-22.

Fourth Quarter
Neace hit a three and a bucket for five in the quarter for 13 on the game and Cannoy added her third three. Trinity Romans hit a three and had five for the Lady Pirates.

Breathitt head to Prestonsburg on Tuesday Night and then will be back home for the final two home games of the year on Friday against Jackson City and Saturday as Menifee County visits. Both games will the streamed LIVE on BSN.

Powell County will host Jackson City on Tuesday, Owsley County on Friday and Leslie County on Saturday next week.
