This development occurs the day after Kentucky’s 41-0 loss at Louisville.
LEXINGTON – November 30, 2025 – Bradley Charles
It’s something that many UK fans have wanted as of late; and it looks like they’re going to get their wish. ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that UK is expected to fire head football coach Mark Stoops. Thamel added that the process is expected to formally play out on Monday.
It occurs following a season that saw UK lose five games by at least 21 points, which included a 45-17 road loss at then No. 14 Vanderbilt and a 41-0 road loss to Louisville in the Governor’s Cup. The Cats went 5-7 (2-6 SEC) in 2025, and 4-8 (1-7 SEC) in 2024.
I understand wanting to take the program in a new direction, but I also think it’s important to acknowledge that Mark Stoops accomplished a lot in his tenure with the program. As we think back to 2012, with the realistic truth about UK football at that time; I think that most fans would have signed up for what’s unfolded in the past 13 years.
BBN went from begging for bowl-eligibility to two on-field 10-win seasons. Stoops finishes his tenure with an overall on-field record of 82-80, and an official record of 72-80 due to the vacated 2021 season. With that said, a new era of Kentucky football will be beginning soon.
