Looking back at Morgan County then ahead to Knott County
This week the Bobcats will travel to play Knott County, after having the week off following the Morgan County game on the River Bank. The Bobcats, after Knott County, will come back home to play Leslie County and finish the regular season against Pike County Central. The Bobcats will need to be ready and sharp for both games as they begin readying for the upcoming playoffs.
A look back at Morgan County…
In our last retrospective, we forecast that Morgan was very likely to have a long night on the River Bank and they did figuratively, if not literally. The game featured a running clock throughout, from the opening kickoff, and when the first-string gave way to the future first-string, the young guys, Morgan hadn’t made a single first down and had -10 yards of offense.
Morgan found the end zone in the fourth quarter and lost the game 35-6. The real margin between the two teams was way more chasmic than 29-points. The entire game, half-time included, took around 90-minutes.
A look ahead to Knott County
Statistically, this is destined to be one of our weaker articles. This is due to a lack of information on the Patriots. The KHSAA offers a platform for teams to log both individual and team statistics for offense, defense, and special teams, which Knott County has elected not to participate in. Therefore, there is not any data to analyze.
What can be done is to go through the season results and make note of how the two teams did against common opponents. Knott County opened with Magoffin County to whom they lost 55-21. Breathitt played Magoffin on September 6th and won the game 55-6 at Magoffin.
Knott played Morgan County, at Morgan County, and won 27-8. Breathitt played Morgan on October 4 and won the game 35-6 with a running clock the entire game. BSN doesn’t know that the outcome of the game, visa vie those two teams, tells you much.
Knott County hasn’t played Middlesboro. However, Middlesboro beat Morgan County October 11th, 50-0. Middlesboro played Breathitt, in Middlesboro, September 27th. Breathitt beat Middlesboro in the Veterans Bowl, 57-7.
The sum total of the above parts is it would appear Breathitt is (likely) to be quite a bit better than Knott County. The chances appear likely that the Bobcats have an opportunity to “run the clock” for the 8th consecutive game.
Final Analysis
It has been said a lot this year, these two teams are far from equally matched as the Bobcats figure to have a good night in Hindman. The Bobcats have been sluggish a few times this week coming off a bye-week and that is reason for some concern. It is likely injured Quarterback Braxton O’Hara will dress and would be available should he be needed but unlikely he will play Friday night. With the two games upcoming to close out the regular season, it would be wise for the Bobcats to regain focus, and use Friday Night to their goal of playoff success as their aim.
