LOUISVILLE, Ky. – June 12, 2020
University of Louisville junior Zach Britton is the latest UofL baseball student-athlete to be selected in the MLB Draft, as he was taken in the fifth round on Thursday night.
Britton was the 136th overall selection to the Toronto Blue Jays, joining Reid Detmers and Bobby Miller as Louisville selections in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Britton has played three seasons at Louisville, appearing in 110 games with 69 career starts. Splitting time between outfield, catcher and designated hitter, Britton is a career .280 hitter with 24 doubles, seven home runs and 60 RBIs.
During the shortened 2020 campaign, Britton started all 17 games for the Cardinals. The Batesville, Ind., native led Division I with 11 doubles on the season and posted a .322 batting average.
The Cardinals have had at least three players drafted in all 14 years of head coach Dan McDonnell’s tenure and 87 overall during that span.
