Kentucky junior quarterback Brock Vandagriff has been named to the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. presented by A.O. Smith Corporation announced Wednesday.
The preseason Watch List, semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the distinguished Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, and former players. The award annually recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class.
Vandagriff, a 6-foot-3, 213-pounder from Bogart, Georgia is entering his first season at Kentucky after two campaigns at Georgia. He has appeared in 13 games in his career, completing 12 of 21 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He also has rushed for 46 yards on just six carries. He was a part of back-to-back national championship teams at Georgia in 2021 and 2022.
The namesake of the Golden Arm Award has a storied history. Johnny Unitas was an 18-year veteran of he NFL, who played his collegiate career at the University of Louisville before joining the Baltimore Colts in 1958. His career passing figures include 2,830 pass completions for 40,239 yards, 290 touchdowns and throwing a touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games.
This year’s award winner will be presented the Golden Arm Award trophy at the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award celebration the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, December 6, 2024.
