With the victory, the Cats have now won at least seven games in four consecutive seasons.
LEXINGTON – November 30, 2019 – Bradley Charles – Bluegrass Sports Nation
It was another record day for Lynn Bowden, Jr. and the Kentucky Wildcats in their 45-13 demolishing of the Louisville Cardinals.
Kentucky’s offensive line paved the way for the Cats to rush for 517 yards which breaks the school record that they set against UT Martin last week. What the Cats have been able to do on the ground since Lynn Bowden took over at quarterback is truly phenomenal. The last two games have been particularly impressive.
On the ground, Lynn Bowden led the Cats in all three major categories as he rushed for 284 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries. Bowden fell just 15 yards shy of tying the school record for rushing yards in a game by an individual player, which was set by Moe Williams against South Carolina in 1995. However, with Bowden’s performance he now ranks second on that list.
At the beginning of the season, UK had only had an individual rush for 200+ yards in a single game eight times. Bowden has posted two such games in his first seven starts at quarterback. Beyond that, Bowden is the only player in the SEC to have two 200+ yard rushing performances this season. Bowden came close to having three such performances in the regular season as he rushed for 196 yards against Arkansas.
Chris Rodriguez continued his string of productive performances with a 125-yard performance on nine carries. Rodriguez’s longest run of the game came on a 64-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Kavosiey Smoke had two carries for 75 yards. A.J. Rose had seven carries for 33 yards and one touchdown.
The Kentucky defense played a tremendous game once again. The Cats totaled six sacks, 13 tackles for a loss, and only allowed the Cardinals to gain 162 total yards. After the game, Mark Stoops commented on his defense, “They really have done a remarkable job.”
Coach Stoops had this to say about his team after the game, “I’ve told you over and over again how much of a joy they have been to coach. And that’s not just lip service, it’s the truth. This is a week during Thanksgiving that there’s a lot of thanks out there and a lot to be grateful for, and our team has been grateful this week. We talked about that and having really good hearts all week and being grateful for the opportunity (and) they did that.”
Overall Evaluations:
The Cats finish the regular season with a 7-5 overall record which includes a 3-5 record in SEC-play. Currently, we do not know what bowl game the Cats are going to go to, but there are a number of different projections as to where they will go and who they will play.
