CATS Get Blown Out at No. 18 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE – January 28, 2026 – BSN Staff

It wasn’t the ideal night for UK at No. 18 Vanderbilt on Tuesday night. The Cats were destroyed by the Commodores. Vandy led by as many as 22 points in the first half en route to an 80-55 victory.

“We were a disaster tonight,” UK head coach Mark Pope said following the game.

Otega Oweh led UK in scoring with 20 points, which marks his eighth 20-point game of the season. He is the first Wildcat to have two 20-point games against Vanderbilt in Nashville since Tayshaun Prince in 2001 and 2002. Oweh was 7-of-19 from the floor and 2-of-4 from 3-point range.

Oweh also registered a team-leading three assists and a team-leading three steals. Denzel Aberdeen was the only other Wildcat to score in double figures. He totaled 15 points, while going 6-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-4 from 3-point range.

Up next for UK is a matchup against former Kentucky head coach John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks. That matchup will be played at No. 15 Arkansas on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 6:30 p.m., and be shown on ESPN.
