It’s a joyful day for BBN. Lexington’s Jager Burton, rated the third-best offensive guard in the high school class of 2021 by 247Sports, could have played college football at essentially any program in the country; however, Mark Stoops and the Cats convinced the hometown product to keep his talents in Lexington.
Over the years, there have been a number of talented in-state commits who went on to have terrific careers at UK. Those that come to mind are Tim Couch, Dennis Johnson, Jared Lorenzen, Andre Woodson, etc. All signs point towards Burton joining that list of UK greats.
The four-star guard is one of the top offensive linemen in his class, a position group for which UK has developed quite the reputation for. In fact, Pro Football Focus recently graded all returning SEC offensive linemen and found Kentucky’s unit to be the best in the SEC by a wide margin.
Without any doubt, UK’s O-line is one of the best in the country with several players including Darian Kinnard, Drake Jackson, and Landon Young, having legitimate chances for success in the NFL. With Burton’s commitment, it looks as though UK is destined for tremendous O-line play for years to come.
One can only assume that Burton’s commitment will go a long way towards securing other top-of-the-line talent for UK. At this point, it would be hard to overstate the magnitude of Burton’s commitment. It will be interesting to see how the future unfolds for both him and the Cats.
