EKU – SOFTBALL ADDS FOUR

RICHMOND, Ky. – Head Coach Jane Worthington and the Eastern Kentucky University softball team have inked four for the 2019 season. 

Erica Bowers, Gabriela De La Cerda, Grace Frazier and Amanda Sjoberg have all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Colonels.

“We are excited to add all four of these quality individuals to our program,” Worthington stated. “Each brings a unique set of skills, but my favorite thing about them is the confidence they display in their own abilities. They are so fun to watch. Each of them come from very good summer organizations and will have the experience to contribute as freshmen.”

 Bowers, a native of Tyrone, Georgia, was a three-time Most Valuable Player for Sandy Creek High School. The 5-foot-5 catcher was received the Offensive Award two times during her career. Bowers has been selected first or second team all-region each season and was given the Coach Award in 2017. Offensively, she racked up a stellar career batting average of .510, an on-base percentage of .627, collected 26 hits and had 40 runs batted in.

 De La Cerda, a 5-foot-2 outfielder, played two years for Simi Valley High School before playing for Bishop Alemany High School. The Simi Valley, California native started both years varsity at Simi Valley, was selected second team all-league her freshman year and first team all-league her sophomore year. Before transferring she hit .324 and .363 respectively. De La Cerda continued her streak of starting each game for varsity for Bishop Alemany her junior season and was again selected first team all-league after batting .429 and collecting 10 stolen bases for the Warriors.

 Frazier, a 5-foot-10 outfielder from Moultrie, Georgia has been a three time Region I-7A All-Region selection and a member of the GHSA All-State Team in 2017 for the Colquitt County Panthers. After sitting out her first season with an injury she made a huge impact her next three seasons. In her second and third season Frazier racked up a .400 batting average with a combined 25 stolen bases and hit .350 last season with 12 stolen bases.

 Sjoberg, a native of Roseville, California, has been a key player for Roseville High School. The 5-foot-4 utility player collected Offensive Player of the Year honors after a freshman campaign that included a .500 batting average, .542 OBP, 11 this, five RBIs and eight runs scored. Her last two seasons she has poured in a .317 and .329 batting average, respectively, 43 hits, 22 RBIs and 35 runs scored. Sjoberg has been a three-time

Gold Academic Merit Award Medalist for the Tigers.
