EKU Softball – COLONELS ELIMINATED FROM OVC TOURNAMENT WITH 5-3 LOSS TO NO. 2 UT MARTIN

OXFORD, Ala. – The No. 6 seed Eastern Kentucky University softball team’s run at the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament came to an end on Friday night when the Colonels suffered a narrow 5-3 loss to No. 2 UT Martin at Choccolocco Park.

Jodie Duncan powered UTM (39-17) to an early 3-0 lead with an RBI double in the first and a two-run homer in the third; however, EKU did not go quietly. In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Mia Sanchez and sophomore Rachel Minogue laced back-to-back singles, setting the stage for junior Johnkyria Alston to blast a game-tying three-run homer over the wall in right field.

UTM re-took the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Alli Fulcher, and then added an insurance run on another RBI base hit in the top of the sixth.

Brooke Kennedy (23-6) pitched a complete game for the Skyhawks to earn the win.

Senior Alex Sallberg (10-16) received the loss for EKU, going four innings and allowing two runs on seven hits.

Alston went 1-for-2 with three RBI in the game, while Sanchez finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

EKU finishes the 2017 season with a record of 27-31.
