LEXINGTON – February, 4 2026 – Michael Willis
Coming off an emotional win against the Razorbacks on Saturday, the Wildcats returned to Rupp Arena to face the Oklahoma Sooners in what many believed could be a trap game. However, Kentucky never lost focus, dominating the second half on its way to a 94–78 victory. The blowout was a welcome change after the last two meetings between the teams were decided by buzzer-beaters. The win also keeps the Cats perfect in the all-time series against Oklahoma at 6–0.
Neither team was able to gain an advantage early, as the game was tied 10–10 at the first media timeout. Kentucky had already knocked down three three-pointers, but despite solid defense, the Wildcats couldn’t fully slow the Sooners’ offense. The Cats maintained a slim lead throughout most of the first half before finally creating separation late. An 8–0 run to close the half pushed the lead into double digits, sending Kentucky into the locker room up 43–32.
Kentucky’s advantage was fueled by outstanding three-point shooting. The Wildcats hit 56 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, making nine of their 16 attempts. Collin Chandler led the team with nine points at the break, while Brandon Garrison paced the Wildcats on the glass with four rebounds.
The Cats carried their momentum into the second half, opening with a 7–2 run to extend the lead to 16. Oklahoma refused to fold, responding with an 8–0 run to cut the deficit to 57–46 with 14 minutes remaining. Kentucky answered once again, stretching the lead back to 17, but the Sooners made one final push, trimming the margin to eight with 3:14 left. The Wildcats closed the door with an 8–0 run and cruised to the 94–78 win.
Otega Oweh led Kentucky in scoring with 24 points, while Brandon Garrison delivered a standout performance with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was Garrison’s first as a Wildcat, and his continued production could be a major boost as Kentucky looks to make a strong push to close the season.
Next up, the Wildcats will host the Tennessee Volunteers at Rupp Arena on Saturday night. Kentucky will debut its denim jerseys in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the 1996 national championship team. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m.
