Owsley County mounted several comebacks and closed to within 3 points late in the game but Jackson County held on to claim a 64-57 victory in Booneville.
The Generals led after one quarter 13-12, fueled by the scoring of Carter Cunnigan who had 7 points in the quarter. The Owls received 5 points apiece from Wes Cope and Dylan Gay in the period.
Jackson County extended their lead to 29-20 at the half. Corey Cunnigan netted 6 points in the second quarter for the Generals to match the 6 by the Owls’ Cope, who total 11 of his team’s 20 for the half.
Cope continued to tally up points in the third quarter as he tossed in 9 more points to help the Owls close the deficit to 43-38. Jake McCoy was 6/6 on free throws in the quarter to aid the cause.
Keagan Ward and Corey Cunnigan each scored 6 points in the fourth quarter to help their team keep the lead. Cope scored 7 more for the Owls and McCoy had 5, but the Generals were able to hold on for the win.
Wes Cope finished the game with 27 points for the Owls. He was 11/18 shooting and 3/3 from the foul line. Jake McCoy added 13 points (10/11 from the line), Dylan Gay 10, and Keegan Herald 7.
Corey Cunnigan led Jackson County with 20 points. Keagan Ward scored 13, Carter Cunnigan 11, Noah Collett 6, Jamison Marcum 6, Peyton Singleton 7, and Jonas Marcum 1.
The Owls next game is Friday at Powell County in a double header district game with the Lady Owls . They will travel to Perry Central Saturday to play Oneida Baptist in the Big Lou Classic.
Jackson County will play at Clay County Friday.
