High School Football: CANADY: FRIDAY’S GAME WILL BE TOUGHEST TEST YET FOR COMMODORES.

September 5, 2018 – NATHAN LYTTLE – Bluegrass Sports Nation Perry Central Football Columnist
The Perry Central Commodores are undefeated after three games, but Commodore head coach Ovie Canady says this Friday’s game will be a stiff test for his team.

“Clay County has a big, strong team,” Canady said. “It’ll be the best team we’ve faced by far and away.”

Perry Central is coming off a win in the mud against the Knott Central Patriots while Clay County picked up a win against East Jessamine. Coach Canady tells Bluegrass Sports Nation the Tigers have plenty of weapons on both sides of the ball.

“They have a big strong kid running the ball. They have a nice QB who can make some plays and two wide receivers who go get the ball well,” Canady explained. “Defensively they are aggressive and physical. It’ll be a tough task to go into their place and win.”

The Commodores and Tigers are no strangers on the gridiron. Clay County was a district opponent of Perry Central for several years but moved down to Class 4A in 2011. Next year, the Tigers will welcome to Commodores into Class 4A, as the new alignment places both Perry and Clay into 4A-District 8.

The injury bug has reared its ugly head and Perry may be without a few players for this one. Mason rice is down with an ankle injury. Jordan Feltner is listed as questionable with hand and knee issues. Ben Gambill and Ethan Eldridge are both out for the game as well. After this Friday’s game, the Commodores have an open week, hopefully allowing time for some wounded Commodores to heal up before entering district play against the Letcher Central Cougars.

Friday’s kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Manchester. As of now, the forecast shows possible thunderstorms, leaving the possibility of more lightning delays across Eastern Kentucky.
