In a scheduled work session this morning, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) discussed many topics to be finally voted upon at the Board of Control meeting scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM.
The paramount takeaway was KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett stating, “We’re going to participate in athletics this fall. We just don’t know what it’s going to look like.”
Other Highlights from the meeting:
-The current practice guidelines will be extended until Sunday August 2nd. (except golf)
-Golf will be permitted to start on time with games scheduled to start on July 31st
-Schools encouraged to limit workouts to 6 hours per week, per athlete
-Masks are not required during athletic practice and/or workouts
-No AAU travel basketball during the school season
-Basketball players can attend one day camps for recruiting opportunities
-Freshman, JV, & Varsity tripleheaders are likely done
-The COVID-19 data from the last week of July, will determine the start date of full practices and games
-August 3rd is the target date for a “return to normal” practice
