Lady Eagles Outlast Corbin

2021 All A Classic Knott v. Leslie (Girls) 1-9-21

Corbin traveled to Hyden Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the Lady Eagles. Corbin entered the game at 8-6 and off a 5-point loss to Jackson County, while Leslie County entered the game at 8-3 and looking for a second straight win. The Lady Eagles took the lead early, and held off a late rally to seal a win 68-65.

1st QUARTER
At the end of the quarter the Lady Eagles and Lady Redhounds played to a 21-21 draw. Sophomore guard Kallie Housley powered the offense with six points for Corbin. Sophomore center Emma Napier scored eight points, while sophomore guard Courtney Hoskins tossed in seven.

2nd QUARTER
Napier and Hoskins remained hot for the Lady Eagles, as they combined to score 15 points. Leslie County’s defense only allowed seven points and the Lady Eagles built a lead to close out the first half 38-28.

3rd QUARTER
Corbin tightened up on the defensive end and outscored Leslie 17-8. Senior guard Shelby Stewart hit an early 3-pointer igniting the Lady Redhounds offense. Senior forward Emily Bowling and Emma Napier both scored four for Leslie County. At the end of the quarter, Leslie led 46-45.

4th QUARTER
Sophomore guard Iris Napier made six of eight free throws for the Lady Eagles, and added a basket for eight points. Eight grader Raegen Walker kept Corbin in striking distance pouring in seven points. When the final horn sounded, the Lady Eagles logged another win 68-65.
