Lexington starter Garrett Davila and reliever Nolan Watson teamed up for a two-hit shutout as the Legends blanked the West Virginia Power 9-0 Thursday night in Charleston.
Angelo Castellano had three hits for Lexington, including a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Vance Vizcaino and Michael Gigliotti also had three hits in the game.
The Legends opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Meibrys Viloria walked, stole second and came home on a single by Castellano.
The score remained 1-0 until the Legends scored four runs in the sixth. With one out, Gabriel Cancel singled and Joe Dudek walked. Viloria struck out, but Manny Olloque singled, scoring Cancel, and Castellano followed with his eighth home run of the season, putting the Legends ahead 5-0.
The Legends added two runs in the seventh. Singles by Vance Vizcaino and Khalil Lee and a walk to Cancel loaded the bases. With two outs, a throwing error by third baseman Oneil Cruz allowed Vizcaino and Lee to score.
Castellano led off the eighth with a single and scored on a one-out double by Michael Gigliotti. Gigliotti scored the game’s final run on a double by Lee.
Davila (8-6) was the winning pitcher. He allowed one hit in six innings, struck out four batters and walked two.
Watson, making his first relief appearance for Lexington after starting 35 games for the Legends over the last two seasons, earned the first save of his career. He gave up one hit over the last three innings. Watson struck out two batters and walked none.
West Virginia starter Eduardo Vera (5-7) took the loss.
The Legends won two out of three in the series, and will return home for a four-game series against Asheville. Game time Friday night is 7:05 p.m.
