Kannapolis starter Yelmison Peralta and three relievers combined for a three-hit shutout as the Intimidators blanked the Lexington Legends 2-0 Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
A triple by Alex Call and a single by Mitch Roman gave the Intimidators a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Gavin Sheets led off the fourth with his first home run for Kannapolis, a blast over the wall in right field to close out the scoring.
Peralta (1-2) struck out eight batters and walked one as he earned his first win of the season. The only hit against him was a fourth-inning double by Joe Dudek. Kevin Escorcia got the final out in the seventh, and Danny Dopico pitched a scoreless eighth. J.B. Olsen worked the ninth and recorded his first save, retiring Meibrys Viloria on a ground out to end the game after Emmanuel Rivera had reached on an error and Manny Olloque singled.
Lexington starter Anthony Bender (3-3) took the loss. He pitched six innings and allowed six hits and two runs. He struck out seven batters and walked one. Relievers Vance Tatum and Matt Wynne blanked the Intimidators over the last three innings.
Game two of the four-game series will be played Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
