Relief pitcher Grant Gavin of the Lexington Legends has been added to the Southern Division roster for the South Atlantic League All-Star game, which will be played Tuesday night in Columbia, South Carolina. League president Eric Krupa made the announcement Sunday.
Gavin, 21, a right-hander from Parkville, Missouri, has a 1-2 record with an earned run average of 1.38 in 19 appearances. He has six saves. In 32 and two-thirds innings pitched, he has struck out 43 batters and walked 14. He was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 29th round of the 2016 first-year player draft after finishing his college career at the University of Central Missouri.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Grant and great news for the Legends,” said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. “He’s done an outstanding job. We’ll look forward to seeing him pitch in the All-Star game.”
Gavin joins Legends pitcher Jace Vines on the All-Star roster. Outfielder Kort Peterson was also named to the Southern Division team, but was later promoted to advanced-A Wilmington.
