The Lexington Legends broke open a close game with five runs in the seventh inning and went on to a 7-1 win over the Augusta GreenJackets Sunday afternoon in Augusta.
The Legends took the lead in the fourth inning when Joe Dudek singled with two outs and came home on a double by Emmanuel Rivera. Dudek and Rivera each had three hits in the game.
Skyler Ewing’s homer in the bottom of the fourth tied the game at 1-1, but the Legends moved in front again in the sixth when Gabriel Cancel doubled, stole third, and came home on a throwing error by Ewing, the catcher.
Amalani Fukofuka started the seventh with a single, and Marten Gasparini reached on an error.
Ricky Aracena was called out on strikes, but Khalil Lee walked to load the bases. After Jose Morel relieved starter Stephen Woods for Augusta, Meibrys Viloria was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run.
Dudek followed with a two-run single, and Rivera doubled home two more runs, giving the Legends their final margin.
Lexington starter Jace Vines (3-2) got the win. He worked six innings and allowed six hits and one run. He walked one batter and struck out four, and lowered his earned run average for the season to 1.73. Anthony Bender picked up a save in his first appearance as a Legend with three innings of scoreless relief.
Woods (2-3) was the losing pitcher.
The Legends have won the first two games of the four-game series, which continues Monday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
