Lexington Legends Ready to Kick off 2018 with a Bang

Legends open season with a bang

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) – Baseball is back in Lexington as the Lexington Legends kick off the 2018 season at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Thursday, April 5 at 7:05 p.m. The Legends will first face the Charleston RiverDogs for a four game series before the Greenville Drive roll into town on Monday, April 9.

“We are so excited to kick off the 2018 season at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Not only will fans see the team in action for the first time, we will also be showing off the Lexington community with nights featuring groups such as Bryan Station High School,” said Legends President/CEO Andy Shea. “We also will have our first Education Day of the season. The ballpark will be full of students learning the science of baseball and getting hands on learning in the Toyota Triple Play Zone.”

Thursday, April 5 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Charleston: Things will get electric on Opening Night with the Bryan Station High School Stache Tank Takeover. Bryan Station High School students will execute their winning theme game idea: Tropical Electric. The concourse will be illuminated with neon lights and fans can take their picture in the photo booth by the main gates. Throughout the game, there will be hulu dance cams and before the fireworks at the conclusion of the game, glow sticks will be given to fans. It is also Thirsty Thursday presented by Kentucky Ale allowing fans to enjoy $1 12 oz. beers and $3 16 oz. beers at the Bullpen Patio, First Base Pavilion Tent, and the Handlebar in the first base concourse. Opening Night will also be the first Pepsi Bark in the Park of the season! Dog owners can bring their K9 friend to the ballpark for a $2 dog entry fee to be donated to the Scott County Humane Society. Thanks to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, the first 1,000 fans will receive a magnet schedule and will always know when the Legends are at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Friday, April 6 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Charleston: Fans can check the Legends schedule every time they go to the fridge for another tub of ice cream, pickle, midnight snack or other guilty pleasure. The first 1,000 fans to enter Whitaker Bank Ballpark will receive a 2018 Legends season magnet schedule sponsored by Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

Saturday, April 7 at 6:35 p.m. vs. Charleston: Any student that participated in the Legends’ Hit the Books Reading Program can redeem their bookmark for two free box seats at the Whitaker Bank Ballpark Box Office. The Legends will be giving away magnet schedules to the first 1,000 fans through the gates, sponsored by Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

The gates will also open 30-minutes early (12:30 p.m.) for Playtime on the Outfield. Kids and their families can play a game of catch on the same field as the professional ball players. There will also be a pre-game, kids only autograph session with Legends players.

Free parking at Whitaker Bank Ballpark! Fans will enjoy free parking for every Monday game presented by Members Heritage Credit Union.

Tuesday, April 10 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Greenville: Every Tuesday, fans can indulge in 100% all beef Eisenberg hot dogs for just a quarter all night long. The Legends will also pay homage to one of the more unique NBA events of the season: J.R. Smith’s suspension for throwing a bowl of soup. Fans who bring a can of soup to donate to a local charity will receive $3 off their tickets for the night. We don’t recommend throwing soup that night, or any night for that matter.

Wednesday, April 11 at 10:35 a.m. vs. Greenville: What’s more educational than baseball? Schools in the Lexington area and beyond can bring their students to the best field trip experience in the Bluegrass State. The Legends will have two Education Days presented by Lexmark in which there will be STEM related activities throughout the game as well has vendors in the Toyota Kids Zone with hands-on activities for the children. The goal of the Lexington Legends STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Program is to help children in Fayette County Public Schools gain the skills required to succeed in today’s world. This program allows students to learn through hands-on experiences affiliated with the Legends baseball and Lexmark.

The Legends, a Class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and member of the South Atlantic League, kickoff the 2018 season at Whitaker Bank Ballpark against the Charleston RiverDogs, an affiliate of the New York Yankees, on Opening Day – April 5, 2018.
