McDaniel boated a 22-under par score at the University Club for the victory
LEXINGTON – October 15, 2020
Chip McDaniel captured his second Unbridled Tour golf event victory of the 2020 competitive season on Thursday at the University Club in Lexington. The former Kentucky men’s golfer (2015-18) secured a four-shot win, while sophomore Cooper Parks earned low amateur status and finished in a tie for seventh.
McDaniel fired rounds of 67-65-62 for a 22-under par total. His final round featured 10 birdies and an eagle as he logged a 10-under par final round to cruise to the win.
Parks put together rounds of 70-70-66 with a final score of 10-under par for the tournament. Parks has appeared in six events for the Wildcats in his young career, including starting in UK’s first event of the 2020-21 season at The Blessings Collegiate Invitational last week. Parks’ best collegiate finish was a tie for 18th at the Island Resort Intercollegiate to open his college career last season.
McDaniel and Parks were not the only Wildcats in the field playing on familiar ground. Fred Allen Meyer (2015-19) edged Parks by one stroke for sixth place. Cooper Musselman (2015-18) finished in a tie for 16th at 3-under par.
A native of Manchester, Kentucky, McDaniel played 133 collegiate rounds with a 72.00 stroke average. His senior season was highlighted by a victory at the Bearcat Invitational where he fired a career-low 54-hole total of 201. That marked the second-lowest score in the Brian Craig era. He matched that total at the Gary Koch Invitational where he helped UK win its fourth event of the season in a runner-up individual finish.
He’s appeared in 21 professional events since graduating from Kentucky. His best finish was a tie for fifth at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship with a career-low final round of 63 to move into the top 10. He appeared in his first major championship last year at the US Open at Pebble Beach.
