MOREHEAD, Ky. – Alonzo Chatman, a 6-foot-7 forward from Morgan Park High School (Ill.), will join the Morehead State men’s basketball program for the 2016-17 campaign.
“Alonzo (Chatman) is one of the most underrated players to come out of Chicago in a long time,” said head coach Sean Woods. “I think we got a steal because he fits the mold of what we are about here. He’s hard-nosed, he’s the ultimate competitor, he plays with a great motor, and he’s a great kid off the court.”
Chatman, a native of Chicago, helped Morgan Park win back-to-back 3A State Championships during his freshman and sophomore seasons. As a senior, he led the Mustangs to a top three ranking in the state and to a state semifinal appearance.
Chatman is the fourth member of Morehead State’s 2016 signing class. He joins true freshmen Jordan Walker and Djimon Henson, and junior college transfer Soufiyane Diakite.
The Eagles are coming off of one of the best seasons in program history, posting a 23-14 record, along with an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational Finals.
