MOREHEAD, Ky. – James Baker, a 6-foot-7 forward from Meade County High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Morehead State men’s basketball program.
Baker will be a freshman during the 2017-18 school year.
“James gives us a long, athletic, in-state player that has his best basketball ahead of him. He played some point guard at Meade County and was really able to develop his skill package,” said head coach Preston Spradlin.
Baker helped lead Meade County to an 8-1 start in the 2016-17 season before missing nearly two months with a thumb injury. While Baker was out, the Green Wave went on to lose 19 of their next 20 games.
He returned to action for the 11th District tournament and helped lead Meade County (13-22) to a surprise run to the 2017 Kentucky High School Athletic Association Boys’ Sweet Sixteen State Basketball Tournament.
The native of Brandenburg, Ky., averaged 12.9 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks during his junior season at Meade County.
“He’s a versatile player, a multi-positional player, and he’s very skilled for his size. Being an in-state player, I think our fans will be excited to watch him play and he’s excited to be here,” added Spradlin.
Baker joins Cedric Wright, of Chipola Junior College (Fla.), Londell King Jr., Gulf Coast State, De’Von Cooper, of Waggener High School (Ky.), Emanuel Thompson, of Southwest Mississippi Community College, and Adrian Hicks, of Columbia State, as the sixth member of Morehead State’s 2017 class.
