Canaan Tyree had the hot hand throughout the game to propel his Oneida Baptist Mountaineers to an 82-65 victory over Owsley County in the Big Lou Classic at Perry Central Saturday. Tyree scored in a variety of ways and had three treys and 16 free throws made as he was able to get to the line off drives. The senior guard finished with 39 points.
OBI built a 20-10 first quarter lead but although they won the next three quarters it was not as easy: 18-17 in the second, 21-19 in the third and 23-19 in the last quarter. However, the Mountaineers were able to maintain a lead of around 15 before finally winning by 17.
The Owls were led in scoring by Jake McCoy with 19. Dylan Gay scored 18, Wes Cope 15, Keegan Herald 8, Chase Pryse 3 and Erick Craft 2. Pryse had 7 rebounds, Herald 6 and Craft 6.
Besides Tyree’s 39 points OBI had Skylar Roberts with 19, Jacob Rogers 8, Chandler Gregory 8, Ryder Salmons 5, and Alazar Silla 3. The Mountaineers were led in rebound by Jason Erhunmwynse who had 11 boards.
The Owls next game is Wednesday Dec 20 against Lynn Camp in the Redman Auto Group Holiday Classic at Bell County. OBI will play in the Hyden Citizen Bank Classic starting Wednesday.
