Barbourville, Ky – November 27, 2023 – Deron Mays
Owsley County broke out to an 18-13 first quarter lead over Knox Central in Barbourville as Jake McCoy, Dylan Gay and Chase Pryse each scored 5 points, but the Panthers clawed back to regain the lead at 32-28 at the half. 6’5 Gavin Chadwell was too much size and strength inside the paint for the Owls to contain for most of the game. He finished the first half with 13 points and numerous rebounds.
In the second half it was more of Chadwell as he muscled inside for baskets, rebounds and altered shots. By the end of the 3rd quarter the Panthers held a 48-36 lead. The Owls didn’t give up by any means but with a rotation of only 7 players Coach Neil Terry’s team began to show some fatigue toward the last quarter. Jake McCoy scored 10 of Owsley’s 11 fourth quarter points but the host team held on to win 64-47.
Leading the way for the Owls was Jake McCoy with 20 points. Wes Cope scored 10, Dylan Gay 7, Chase Pryse 5, Keegan Herald 3 and Erick Craft 2.
Gavin Chadwell scored 21 for the Panthers and Brayden Mills had 10. Six other players scored in the game for Knox.
The Owls next game is December 1 at Hazard in the D.J. Begley Classic.
