Last night, Perry County Central’s Chelsey Napier announced via Twitter that she is committing to the University of the Cumberlands: “I am blessed beyond measures & extremely excited to announce that I am committing to the University of the Cumberlands to further my athletic and academic career,” she wrote. Napier went on to thank God, her mother, and all of her coaches and teammates who helped her become the player she is today.
Napier is entering her senior season at Perry County Central, and is coming off a junior campaign where she was second on the team in both PPG (9.9) and RPG (5.3). Aside from the basketball court, Napier is also a member of the Perry Central cross country team and the Perry Central track team, which makes her a three-sport athlete. Napier also plays basketball for the Kentucky Dream AAU team, which features a number of talented athletes who have received collegiate offers.
As for Napier’s team at the next level, the UC women’s basketball program is very much on the rise. Last season, the Lady Patriots posted a 19-win campaign for the first time since the 2013-14 season. Despite having three seniors on last year’s team, the program returns their top seven scorers, and appears to be in a great position to take another step forward in the upcoming season.
BSN wishes Napier the best of luck both at Perry Central in the upcoming season and at the University of the Cumberlands in the years to come.
