Perry plays Leslie tonight in the first 54th District matchup of the season.
HAZARD – December 4, 2019 – Bradley Charles – Bluegrass Sports Nation
On Wednesday night, the Perry County Central Commodores host the Leslie County Eagles in a 54th District matchup.
The Commodores went 19-13 last season while winning both the 54th District and the 14th Region. However, the Commodores had seven seniors last season, which means they have a lot of shoes to fill this season.
As for the Eagles, they return the majority of their team that went 7-20 last season including Trenton Day who was the team’s leading scorer with an average of 17.8 points per game. The Eagles have a lot of experience on their roster as they have 12 upperclassmen, 11 of which are juniors.
At tonight’s game, Perry County Central will honor their long-time girls basketball head coach Randy Napier. Napier holds the record for the most wins by a girls basketball coach in KHSAA history.
It will be interesting to see how tonight’s game plays out as each team is hoping to start off the season with a win. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30.
