Reds Even Series with Boston in Extra Innings Thriller

Dane Myers drives in the Game Winner in the 11th for Reds First Win of 2026

CINCINNATI – March 28, 2026 – EVAN MILLER

Cincinnati got the bats going early as rookie sensation Sal Stewart (1b) singled to right to drive in TJ Friedl (OF) to put the Reds ahead. Cincy continued to score valuable hits in the bottom of the 1st , as Eugenio Suarez (DH) hit a force out into the shallow infield to allow Stewart to 2nd and Matt McLain (2B) to home to score another run, 0-2 CIN.

The bats did not stop for the Reds in the 2nd as McLain smacked a double into centerfield to score Ke’Bryan Hayes (3B). 0-3 CIN. The Sox did not allow a scoring drought for long as Trevor Story (SS) sent one over the fence to center field during the 3rd. 1-3 CIN. The rook responded to the Sox score, as Stewart tallies the Red’s first home run of the season to center field! 1-4 Cin.

Boston dids not stay down long as they tallied an additional two runs during both the 4th and 5th. 3-4 CIN. Fan favorite, Elly De La Cruz (SS), continued the home run tally has he went yard to right field during the bottom of the 5th. 3-5 CIN.

Wilyer Abreu (RF) threw on the cape for the Sox as he doubled to right field during the 7th to drive in Jarren Durran (DH) and then homered during the 9th inning to tie Cincy. Aroldis Chapman (LHP) puts the Reds next three batters up and then down to force extras at Great American. 5-5.

Red’s RHP Connor Phillips retired the first two batters out swinging, and forced Ceddanne Rafaela to fly out to left in the top of the 10th. Phillips battled strongly in the top of the 11 th, taking Roman Anthony (LF) out swinging and forcing Trevor Story to hit into an unassisted double play to 2nd. The pressure made a diamond out of Dane Myers
(OF), as he lined a single into left field to score Friedl to score to set off a wild celebration! 5-6 REDS Win.

The MLB officially accredits the win to Connor Phillips (1-0) and loss to Justin Slaten (0-1). The player of the game was Dane Myers who was 1-1 and had an RBI.

Other players to note were Sal Stewart (2-4, HR, BB, 2 RBI, R), Matt McLain (3-4, 2B, 2 BB, RBI, R) and Wilyer Abreu (2-5, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, R).
