The Will Stein era began with a 45-13 victory for the Cats over FCS opponent Youngstown State on Saturday. UK got off to a quick start as Kentucky led 28-0 with 1:51 to play in the first half. In so doing, the Cats scored a touchdown on four of their first five drives.
Kenny Minchey was 18-of-27 for 301 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. CJ Baxter scored the first two touchdowns of the game, and finished with nine carries for 48 yards. Jason Patterson recorded 11 rushes for 78 yards, which led Kentucky in both categories.
Sophomore tight end Mikkel Skinner led UK in receiving yards with 61 off four catches and one touchdown. Willie Rodriguez had four receptions for 48 yards and one TD.
Kentucky’s defense registered five TFL’s, two sacks, four pass breakups, and four QB hurries. Up next, the CATS take on No. 13 Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
