SEC institutions move to eight-meet conference-only slate
LEXINGTON – November 24, 2020
The University of Kentucky gymnastics program announced its 2021 schedule on Monday, joining the Southeastern Conference’s other seven competing members in unveiling its own eight-meet conference-only slate as part of a format unique to the upcoming season.
The Wildcats will participate in four dual meets at home and four on the road, with bye weeks accompanying each four-week span. Kentucky will face every SEC opponent once in addition to its home-and-away series with Alabama.
Per the league office, “The 2021 SEC gymnastics season will be comprised of eight meets per school over a 10-week conference-only schedule, concluding with the SEC Gymnastics Championship on March 20 in New Orleans. The decision to limit competition to conference-only opponents is based on the need for maximum flexibility in making any necessary scheduling adjustments while reacting to developments around the COVID-19 pandemic and continued advice from medical professionals. The schedule will include two open dates for all schools in week 5 and week 10 to allow for rescheduling of postponed events.”
The Cats are set to commence the season on the road versus the Crimson Tide on Jan. 8 and make their home debut against Auburn on Jan. 15. After a rematch with Alabama (Jan. 29), UK will also host Arkansas (Feb. 12) and LSU (Feb. 26), traveling to Missouri (Jan. 22), Florida (Feb. 19) and Georgia (March 5).
Further event information regarding the 2021 gymnastics season—including meet times, television designations and ticketing—will be announced at a later date. UK Athletics is offering fan cutouts, which may feature an image of a person or pet, to be placed inside Memorial Coliseum on the day of each meet.
