BOONEVILLE – August 24, 2020
Weston Miller, of Breathitt County High School is the 14th Region All A individual Champion.
The day got off to a bad start for Miller as he hit his opening tee shot out of bounds, however, after taking a penalty stroke, he hit his third shot to ten feet and saved par. Miller was bogey free on the front nine with one birdie for an opening nine of one under par 35.
Weston was under par most of the round but made bogeys on 11, 12, 13. From there Weston made par on the last five holes to shoot 74. That score tied for medalist with defending region champ, Zach Watterson from Lee County High School. A Sudden Death playoff was had to determine the winner.
Each player mader par on the first two holes and Weston made par on the third whol for the win.
Weston is a 13 year old freshman and this is the first individual regional golf championship for BHS, after winning the team title two years ago. Breathitt finished second in the team competition to Owsley County. The other team members are: Skyler Haddix, Luke Bellamy and Isaac Bellamy.
The All A state championship will be September 13 at Gibson Bay and both Weston and Watterson will play in the individual tournament with Owsley County in the team competition.
Congratulations Weston and we wish the best to all competing in the State Tourney!!!
