Wolfe County Impressive in Big Time Win Over GRC

Wolfe County (Boys) v. Jackson City 1-26-21

CAMPTON – February 26, 2021 – Brendon D. Miller

After their slow start to the season, the Wolves have been doubted by many through this COVID ravenged, stop and start season. Early losses to Knott, Hazard, and Perry Central raised reservations about the Wolves and their status in the the 14th Region race. Wolfe welcomed GRC to Rose Gymnasium on Thursday Night, who, at 11-2, would present a good barometer as to status of Coach Robert Scott Creech’s boys.

The Wolves were hot from the perimeter as they knocked down 13 3-pointers on the night of the 23 taken (56%) and D-ed up a talent-laden GRC team. Wilgus Tolson, showed the talent all the Wolfe faithful have known he possesses, as he got the Wolves rolling with 14 of his 28 in the first quarter splashing four 3-pointers in the opening minutes. Jaz Johnson continued his stellar year with 27, including 11 down the stretch in the 4th.

After the game, BSN’s Bradley Charles interviewed Coach Creech, and as he said about his team, “That is who we felt were at the beginning of the season”, meaning that Wolfe is now developing into the team everyone thought they would be. Quite timely as well as the 55th District begins 14 days from tomorrow, and the 14th Region Tournament is 21 days away.
