JACKSON – October 21, 2020 – BRENDON D. MILLER
Wolfe County won a heavyweight battle in the Championship of the 55th District on Wednesday Night. Wolfe and Breathitt came in ranked 1 and 2 in the KVCA Regional rankings and both showed why they are considered two of the top teams in the Region and two of the favorites in next week’s 14th Region Tournament.
Wolfe controlled the first two sets (25-22, 25-21) before Breathitt fought back in the third to win 22-25 and gain momentum. Wolfe County closed out the match in the fourth set 25-15 for the Championship behind the play of reigning 14th Region Player of the Year Hailey Stone. The set was marred by an injury to Breathitt star setter Emalee Watts, who injured her knee and was forced to leave the match.
Both teams advance to the Regional Tournament with the draw being held this Friday to determine matchups and schedule.
