HYDEN – November 27, 2020 – Rod Davidson
The Kentucky Football Coaches Association released its district coach and player of the year for each District in Kentucky earlier this week. The honorees in Class 2A District 7, were both from the Leslie County Eagles.
Eagle head man Eddie Melton was selected as Coach of the Year and Eagle standout Linebacker Preston Spurlock is the Distrct Player of the Year.
Coach Melton navigated his Eagles to a 2-4 record on the season, and has the Eagles primed for a shot at the District Championship tonight against Breathitt County. Leslie played a difficult non-district schedule that featured Corbin, Williamsburg, and Clay County.
Senior Preston Spurlock has had a stellar career in the maroon and gold. Despite battling injuries during the last two seasons, Preston has had an outstanding senior season recording double digits in tackes against both Clay County (10) and Middlesboro (13).
Congratulations to both Eddie and Preston!!! Each will receive their award at halftime of the Class 2A KHSAA Gridiron Bowl Champtionship Game at Kroger Field.
