Purdue Deals Louisville their First Loss 66 – 57

Four games and four wins to start the season for the No. 17 Louisville Cardinals, but against inferior competition.  The Cards traveled to West Lafayette to take on the Purdue Boilermakers in their first road game.  They learned just how tough it is to play in a hostile environment especially with some of the signs in the stands that may were not so subtle reminders of the scandals U of L has faced.  I am also pretty sure some things were said that probably were not so nice either.

Size was the overwhelming theme of the game for the Boilermakers.  At times Purdue coach Matt Painter went with his twin towers Isaac Haas at 7’2 and Matt Haarms at 7’3 to challenge the Ray Spalding and Anas Mahmoud.  It worked as both Spalding and Mahmoud got into foul trouble making it much easier for Purdue to get open looks inside and out.

1. J. King led the Cards with 17 points while playing his most aggressive and assertive game of the young season.  He also finished with six rebounds, but did foul out.

Deng Adel scored 13 points, but struggled shooting.  He made only 5 of his 15 shot attempts.

Louisville struggled most of the game offensively shooting only 31.7 from the field.  They also committed 14 turnovers.  Quentin Snider contributed four of those turnovers.

Louisville returns home for the annual Billy Minardi Classic to face Seton Hall Sunday at 4:00.
