Maci Morris Leads Wildcats with 16 Points
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Maci Morris scored 16 points, but the Kentucky women’s basketball lost to No. 3 Louisville 87-63 on Sunday at Memorial Coliseum.
Kentucky (8-4) got 10 points from freshman Tatyana Wyatt, while Jaida Roper added nine. Taylor Murray finished with eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Wildcats. Senior Alyssa Rice also had eight points for Kentucky.
Louisville scored the first seven points of the game to take an early advantage. Kentucky was able to cut the lead to 9-6 on a layup by Rice, but the Cards scored the next five points to extend the lead to 14-6. The Wildcats would get as close as 18-15, but the Cards led 23-16 at the end of the first period.
Both teams struggled from the field early in the second period, as Kentucky hit just one of its first five field goals, while Louisville hit just one of its first six. Morris connected on a jumper with 5:01 left in the half to cut the U of L lead to 27-20, but the Cards would end the half on a 20-5 run to lead 47-25 at the break.
Louisville would lead by as many as 26 in the third period, and the Cards led 69-45 at the end of the third. Roper had seven points in the third quarter for Kentucky.
In the fourth quarter, Morris got hot, scoring nine points as the Wildcats cut the lead to 81-60, but Kentucky would get no closer.
Louisville (13-0) was led by Asia Durr, who scored a game-high 32 points.
Kentucky returns to action on Thursday, as the Wildcats host California at Memorial Coliseum Tipoff is set for Noon ET and the game can be seen on the SEC Network.
