This week was not very busy throughout the 14th Region. Many teams were returning from holiday tournaments and most are getting geared up for the All “A” Classic. As the second semester the school year is starting, here is a look back at the week that was and my new weekly rankings.
54th DISTRICT
CORDIA (6-9) – Cordia only played one game this week and lost to Corbin at South Laurel in the Raymond Reed Classic by a score of 88-63.
JUNE BUCHANAN (0-6) – June Buchanan lost their only game of the week on the road to Danville Christian by as score of 69-45.
KNOTT CENTRAL (9-3) – Knott County Central hosted Martin County and defeated them for the second time this season by a score of 59-53.
LETCHER CENTRAL (3-8) – Letcher Central had one of the busiest weeks in the region this week. They played three games, going 1-2. They began the week at home with an 86-41 blowout of Cumberland Homeschool Athletic Teams. Letcher Central, then dropped a tough one 67-66 at Leslie County. The Cougars finished the week at Knightstown, Indiana in the Hoosier Gym with a 65-54 loss to Greenup County.
54th DISTRICT
BUCKHORN (5-7) – Buckhorn lost their only game of the week 54-41 to Russell County at South Laurel in the Raymond Reed Classic.
HAZARD (9-2) – Hazard did not play this week.
LESLIE COUNTY (4-8) – Leslie County won both games they played this week and extended their winning streak to three. The Eagles won a razor by a razor thin 67-66 margin over Letcher County Central at home. Leslie County followed that up with a 60-44 win at Powell County.
PERRY CENTRAL (4-9) – Perry Central won their only game of the week over Breathitt County at home by a score of 78-65.
55th DISTRICT
BREATHITT COUNTY (4-7) – Breathitt County went winless on the week in two games. They started with a 78-65 road loss to Perry County Central and finished with a 68-59 loss to Grant County at home.
JACKSON CITY (5-8) – Jackson City lost their only game of the week to Berea in overtime 80-78 at Knightstown, Indiana in the Hoosier Gym.
WOLFE COUNTY (10-2) – Wolfe County won their only game of the week at home against Lynn Camp by a score of 70-61.
56th DISTRICT
ESTILL COUNTY (10-4) – Estill County traveled to Powell County and soundly defeated them 65-34 in a 56th District match up.
LEE COUNTY (2-9) – Lee County lost their only game of the week at Owsley County by a score of 79-62.
OWSLEY COUNTY (5-5) – Owsley County defeated Lee County at home 79-62 in their only game of the week.
POWELL COUNTY (3-8) – Powell County played two games and lost them both. They were blown out on their home court by Estill County 65-34. They finished the week with another home loss to Leslie County 60-44.
