Browning takes Bengals 92 yards for the Game Winner
CINCINNATI – September 14, 2025 – Brendon D. Miller
It sure was not comfortable and at time looked improbable, but Jake Browning came off the bench Sunday to drive the Bengals 92 yards on 15 plays, capping it off with a leaping third-and-goal quarterback sneak with 18 seconds left for a 31-27 win over Jacksonville.
Joe Burrow exited the game in the second quarter with a left toe injury, and Browning survived three interceptions and finished with 241 yards on 21 of 32 passing as the Bengals went to 2-0 for the first time since 2018.
Burrow went down with 8:36 left in the first half when Jags defensive tackle Arik Armstead bulled through the right interior of the Bengals offensive line for Jacksonville’s second sack of the game.

HEADLINES
CHASE WITH A BIG DAY
Ja’Marr Chase finished the day with 14 receptions for 165 yards and one touchdown. It marked his most catches and most yards in a game since Week 14 of last season at Dallas, when he caught 14 passes for 177 yards.
Sunday marked Chase’s 20th career game with 100 or more receiving yards, which ties Bengals Ring of Honor member Isaac Curtis for the third-most such games in team history. Only A.J. Green (33) and Chad Johnson (31) crossed the century mark in more games during their Cincinnati career.
Chase also logged his 12th career game with 10 or more receptions.
HILL WITH THE BIG PICK
Dax Hill ended an eight-play Jaguars drive when he picked off Trevor Lawrence’s pass into the end zone on third-and-goal with 4:52 left in the opening quarter. It marked Hill’s third career interception and his first since transitioning to cornerback in 2024. His last pick prior to Sunday occurred in Week 4 of the 2023 campaign at Tennessee.
JA’MARR GETS 400th CATCH
The Bengals capitalized on Hill’s interception with an 11-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a four-yard scoring pass from Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase.
Chase, who entered the day with 397 career receptions (regular season), recorded his 400th catch during the drive. Playing in his 64th game, he tied Julio Jones and Jarvis Landry as the fifth-fastest player in NFL history to reach that milestone.
Chase’s receiving touchdown was the 47th of his career.
JORDAN BATTLE WITH A HUGE INT
Jordan Battle notched his second interception of the season when he dove to get his hands underneath a Lawrence pass midway through the second quarter. The pick set up Cincinnati’s offense at the Jacksonville 30-yard line, and seven plays later Evan McPherson knocked through a 31-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 14-10.
Battle became the first Bengals player with interceptions in back-to-back games to open a season since CB Ashley Ambrose in 1996.
Cincinnati now has recorded multiple interceptions in the first two games of a season for the first time since 2005. The Bengals had two in the 2005 opener against Cleveland, then followed up with five the next week versus Minnesota.
TINSLEY WITH AN INCREDIBLE ONE-HANDED TD
Preseason star Mitchell Tinsley’s first career reception came in familiar fashion, as he came down with a one-handed touchdown grab on a pass from Jake Browning to tie the game 17-17 early in the third quarter.
Tinsley, who played in his fifth career regular-season game on Sunday, earned a spot on the Bengals’ initial 53-man roster thanks in large part to his performance in the second preseason game at Washington. He caught five passes for 73 yards in that contest, including two highlight-reel scoring grabs in a span of 21 seconds before halftime.
BROWING TO TEE
Browning launched a deep ball on third-and-five from the Jaguars’ 42-yard line that hit Tee Higgins in stride, and the sixth-year man fought off contact from two Jacksonville defensive backs to score his first touchdown of the season. The play tied up the score at 24-24 late in the third quarter.
It marked Higgins’ 35th career touchdown, and was his longest scoring reception since he caught a 42-yarder from Burrow in Week 11 of last season against the Chargers.
NOTES
- The announced temperature at kickoff was 84 degrees, making Sunday’s contest the fourth-hottest game in Paycor Stadium history. The only games with a higher kickoff temperature were Sept. 8, 2002 vs. the San Diego Chargers (90 degrees), Sept. 14, 2008 vs. Tennessee (88 degrees) and Oct. 7, 2018 vs. Miami (87 degrees).
- Halfback Samaje Perine returned six kickoffs for 154 yards (25.7 average). Entering Sunday, he had eight career kick returns for 224 yards (28.0 average).
- Sunday’s announced attendance figure was 65,871. The Bengals now have welcomed an announced attendance of 65,000 or more in 25 consecutive regular-season home games, marking the longest streak in team history. The streak dates back to Week 1 of the 2022 campaign against Pittsburgh. The previous longest streak of 24 games lasted from the start of the 2005 season through the end of 2007.
- Sunday’s victory marked 250 home victories for the Bengals.
