Louisville Football Releases 2020 Schedule

Brendon D. Miller - BSN

The CARDS open the season at home versus Western Kentucky on Sept. 12.

LOUISVILLE – August 5, 2020

The University of Louisville will play 10 Atlantic Coast Conference games and one non-league contest, as the ACC released its new 2020 football schedule on Thursday morning.

Because of the current concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, the league announced an 11-game schedule model that included a 10-game league slate and a non-conference match-up that would be played in the home state of the ACC institution.

The Cardinals open the 2020 season with their only non-conference game of the season, hosting in-state rival Western Kentucky on Sept. 12 at Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals and Hilltoppers will meet for the third-straight season, with the Cardinals taking a 38-21 victory in Nashville last season.

A run of 10-straight ACC games begins when Miami (Fla.) visits Cardinal Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 19. It will be the Hurricanes’ first visit to Cardinal Stadium since 2014 when UofL opened their first season in the league with a 31-13 win.

A three-game road trip begins on Saturday, Sept. 26 when the Cardinals travel to face Pittsburgh at Heinz Field, while also making its first visit to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech on Friday, Oct. 9.

After defeating Notre Dame in their first trip to South Bend, Ind., in 2014, the Cardinals make a return trip to South Bend to face the Fighting Irish on Saturday, Oct. 17. Notre Dame opened the 2019 season with a 35-17 victory over the Cardinals at Cardinal Stadium.

The Cardinals return home for a pair of ACC contests. UofL faces Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 24, and closes the month when Virginia Tech makes its first appearance in Louisville since 1992 on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Louisville continues its league slate with a trip to Charlottesville, Va., to face Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 7 before returning home to host Syracuse on Saturday, Nov. 20.

The final road game of the season takes place on Friday, Nov. 28 when the Cardinals face Boston College before closing the regular season on Dec. 5 versus Wake Forest. It will be the first home game in December since the Cardinals defeated Connecticut 48-17 during the 2006 season.
