Governor Non-Committal on Fall Sports Future after Being “Surprised” by KHSAA Action

FRANKFORT – August 20, 2020

In his daily COVID-19 Update, Governor Beshear avoided weighing in definitively on the KHSAA decision to go forward with Fall Sports. In his comments, Beshear said, “Admittedy, I was surprised.”

Beshear has not received a written proposal from KHSAA and says he’s going to “take a breath” before considering it. Beshear indicated that he will be asking questions of Commissioner Tackett as to KHSAA’s rationale.

“I’m going to take some time to think it through. I don’t know what’s going to come out of it, whether it’s going to be advice, whether it’s going to be something more than that.”

Further guidance likely coming. Is somewhat telling though that he voiced disappointment in KHSAA’s decision.
