Hazard stepped out of 14th Region play on Satruday as the Bulldogs were able to schedule a game with Belfry from the 15th Region at Memorial on Saturday. The matchup was of two teams headed in different directions. Hazard came into the game at 12-3 and winners of 12 of 13, while Belfry was 5-6 and had lost six of their last seven.
The Bulldogs rode a huge 2nd quarter and 25 from Sophomore Max Johnson for the 79-68 win.
1st QUARTER Belfry took the lead to the first break in an evenly played quarter, 21-11. 7 footer Bol Kuir had two baskets for four along with Tyler Chaffin. Ben McNamee and Sal Dean each had a basket. Johnson opened the game with four in the period with Andrew Ford scoring two baskets and Wade Pelfrey hitting his first 3-pointer of the night.
2nd QUARTER Johnson went to work in the 2nd. Max hit two 3-pointers and had two baskets and was 2 of 2 at the line for 12. Ford had two baskets and was 3 of 3 at the line for seven in the period and 11 in the half. Jarrett Napier hit his only 3-pointer of the game. Kuir had four more in the paint while Caleb Spears also had two baskets for four. At the half, Hazard led by 11, 36-25.
3rd QUARTER Sal Dean began his big 2nd half with six, whild Zack Savage also had six and Kuir added five. Pelfrey lit up the tunnel end of Memorial with two 3-pointers and two baskets for ten. Johnson hit his third 3-pointer and 8th-Grader Samuel Shoptaw hit is only 3-pointer of the night and tallied five. Headed to the 4th, Hazard was in front by eight, 55-47.
4th QUARTER Belfry tried to make runs in the 4th, Dean had 11 in the period for his team-high 21, and Kuir pumped in another seven for 20 on the game. Hazard closed out the game at the line going 11 of 16 in the quarter. Pelfrey was 6 of 8 at the line and added eight to his total of 22. Johnson had a 3-pointer and was 3 of 4 at the line.
