Letcher Central and Leslie County met on Wednesday Night in a battle of two of the 14th’s top teams. The two battled to a 60-60 tie with a few seconds on the clock with Leslie inbounding. Senior Brooke Bates stole the inbounds pass and passed to Kaylee Banks who put in the game winner at the buzzer for the Lady Cougar victory.
Kiera Couch was 8 of 14 from the field to lead the Lady Cougars and was the game’s top scorer with 18. Couch was selected as the Player of the Game by East Kentucky Photogrpahy.
Loren Boggs (14), Tori Holcomb (11) and Kaylee Banks (11) each scored in double-figures. Jaylin Whitt had eight rebounds to lead the Lady Cougars.
Emma Napier was tops on the board for the Lady Eagles with nine and Emily Bowling (15), Emily Napier (14), and Courtney Hoskins (12) each scored in double-figures.
Letcher was 23 of 56 on the night for 41.1% from the field, and six of 16 from beyond the arc (37.5%). Leslie actually had two more field goals as at 25 of 62 (40.3%), and six of 14 on 3-pointers (42.9%). The differnce came at the line where Letcher was 10 of 18, while Leslie was four of 12. Leslie won the battle of the boards 44-37.
