CAMPTON – July 22, 2021 – Brendon D. Miller
Wolfe County High School introduced Brandi Howard as the new Head Softball Coach on Thursday afternoon in Campton. Coach Howard will take over one of the top programs in the Mountains and will also be a teacher at Wolfe County Middle and High Schools.
Coach Howard comes to WC after serving two seasons as the Head Coach at Pikeville High School. During her tenure at Pikeville, Coach Howard’s teams won two 59th District Titles, two 15th Region All A Titles, and were a Runners-Up in the 15th Region this past season. The Lady Panthers were 29-11 in 2021 and 26-12 in 2019, for a 55-23 record (.6923 winning percentage). Coach Howard’s teams have always been well-coached and have competed at a high level during her tenure at Pikeville.
Coach Howard is a native of Magoffin County and played on a State Tournament team during her prep career at Magoffin. As a player, Brandi excelled on the field and was able to continue her playing career with a solid tenure at the University of Pikeville. Upon graduation at UPike, she was a graduate assistant coach with the Lady Bears while finishing her Masters Degree.
Wolfe County Schools Athletic Director, Robert Scott Creech, gave his thoughts on the hire: “Wolfe County Schools, our community, our players, and our athletic program are extremely excited and fortunate to have Coach Howard join our organization. The success she has garnered in her first two seasons of coaching is exactly what we need to continue our level of success in the classroom and on the field. I am also excited for our students at WCMS and WCHS because we are adding a top-level instructor in those buildings that will provide skills to allow for expanded opportunities for employment for our students upon graduation. This is a WIN-WIN for Wolfe County.”
Coach Howard: “I am honored and excited for the opportunity to lead the Wolfe County Softball Program. I see a lot of potential for the Lady Wolves as Coach Benny Campbell has built a strong winning culture with back to back Regional Championships. I look forward to continued success by developing our student athletes to win with passion, integrity, and sportsmanship. I am so excited to be here and can’t wait to get started!”
The Wolfe County Lady Wolves will continue to be in GREAT hands, following the outstanding career of Benny Campbell. The Lady Wolves have already began preparing for next season and look forward to continuing to work as hard as we possibly can to improve the program. Next season can’t get here fast enough! GO WC!!
