Louisville, Ky – September 23, 2023 – Matthew Hudson
The Louisville Cardinals returned home to L&N Stadium to open the conference portion of their home schedule. The Cards have now started off the season 4-0 for the first time since 2016. A beautiful day in Louisville brought out 48,294 fans to watch the Cards take on the Golden Eagles. Louisville brought the ninth-ranked offense into Saturday’s game, going over 400 yards in each of the first three games of the season and averaging over 500 yards of total offense per game.
Louisville’s Offense continued their hot streak with 585 total yards for the game and a season best 56 points against the Boston Colle Golden Eagles. With 388 yards passing and 197 yards rushing the Cardinal attack showed they can do whatever it takes to move the ball.
Jack Plummer had his best game of the season so far showing good command of the offense and a ton of confidence in the pocket. Plummer finished 18-21 with 388 yards passing and 5 TDs, added another TD on the ground.
Jawhar Jordan is turning out to be one of the best RBs in the nation this year. Jordan now has a TD run in 6 straight games and has surpassed 100 yards rushing in 7 of his last 9 games. Jordan finished the game with 249 total yards; 18 carries for 134 yards, 1 reception for 75 yards, 1 kickoff return for 40 yards, and 2 TDs.
The Cardinal Defense came out and dominated the 1st Quarter, controlled the line of scrimmage, and held Boston College to only 43 yards. After that Boston College seemed to get a little rhythm and was able to score 28 points on the Louisville Defense. The Cardinal Defense was led by Linebacker Jaylin Alderman who finished the game with 8 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 tackle for loss.
1st Quarter
Boston Colleges first drive halted and resulted in a Turnover on Downs. Louisville got the ball on their own 41 and wasted no time scoring on a Jawhar Jordan 33-yard TD run.
A big play by Kevin Coleman, a fingertip catch moved the cards to the 16-yard line. Jack Plummer topped the drive off with a 1-yard TD pass to Nate Kurisky.
2nd Quarter
Jack Plummer with another dime to Ahmari Huggins-Bruce for a 45-yard TD pass.
After a close call on their own 37 Louisville is able to recover a fumble and march down the field for their 4th TD of the game. Louisville has now scored a TD on each of their 4 drives this game. Jack Plummer with a 9-yard TD run.
Boston College was able to break the ice, Thomas Castellanos was able to score on the 39-yard QB keeper.
After a big 48-yard connection from Jack Plummer to Chris Bell Jawhar Jordan is able to cap off the drive with a 2-yard TD run. His 2nd rushing TD of the game.
Louisville with some trickeration before half. With only 33 seconds before the half what looked to be a kneel down turned out to be a 42-yard fumblerooski by Jawhar Jordan. Jack Plummer hits Jamari Thrash for a 42-yard TD pass with 8 seconds left in the 1st half. Louisville with the quick 3 play, 75-yard drive in just 25 seconds to push the lead 42-14 at the half.
3rd Quarter
Louisville gets the ball to start the 2nd half. Pick up right where they left off, Jack Plummer to Jawhar Jordan for the 75-yard TD completion.
Boston College was able to respond with a 75-yard drive of their own for a score. Thomas Castlellanos was able to connect with Lewis Bond for the 22-yard TD reception.
Louisville ties their season high of 56 points on the 55-yard strike from Jack Plummer to Ahmari Huggins-Bruce.
4th Quarter
Boston College continues to fight back. The Golden Eagles are able to put together a 9 play, 72-yard drive capped off by the 2nd TD reception of the game for Lewis Bond from Thomas Castellanos.
