Kentucky routs Jackson State 108-59
LEXINGTON – November 22, 2024 – Michael Willis
It was another blowout victory for the Wildcats as the Cats defeated the Jackson State Tigers 108-59. The victory gives Kentucky a 5-0 record on the season which hasn’t happened since the 2016-17 season. The Cats were heavily favorited by 34.5 and a half prior to the start of the game and they surpassed it easily with the 49-point win.
You could tell from the start that Jaxson Robinson was going to have a good game. Robinson scored two three-point baskets to start the game for the Cats and knocked down his third a few minutes later. Robinson ended the game with 14 points.
It wasn’t long before the game was out of reach for the Tigers. The Cats pushed their lead out to as many as 26 points in the first half and ended the half with a 54-30 lead. Kentucky made 8 of their 20 three-point attempts in the first half. Otega Oweh led the Wildcats in scoring at the half with 13 points. Eight different players scored in the first half for the Wildcats.
The Cats came out cold shooting in the second half missing their first 4 three-pointers, but had several dunks that had the crowd on their feet. Kentucky steadily increased the lead through the second half and didn’t seem to let up the intensity on either side of the court.
Koby Brea led the team in scoring and had another great shooting night. Brea ended the game with 22 points and made 5 of his 8 three-point attempts. Otega Oweh wasn’t far behind Brea with 21 points and 3 steals.
One of the Wildcat’s biggest strengths is their passing ability from all five positions. Kentucky made 41 field goals tonight and had 29 assists on those makes. Four UK players had 5 or more assists, led by Kerr Kriisa with 7. The Wildcats were also efficient making only 10 turnovers.
The blowout victory wasn’t a shock to most fans, but winning any game by nearly 50 points is still a feat that is hard to accomplish. Less experienced teams would have lost focus with such a large margin and not play to their full potential, but the veteran Kentucky team played hard until the final whistle.
